Red Bull RB7 Renault

I think they'll probably run back-to-back tests on Friday for KERS. Also, here's Scarbs' analysis of the rear end. http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2011/04/0 ... -detailed/

Isn't the wing old, btw? I seem to remember they had a feathered inner edge? As here: (from melbourne:

lol, so RB could be acting as if they had KERS, but actually don't then 8)

What also strikes me on the pic's (only jumped to mind know) is the brake-calliper position on the front.

I remember RB started with a similar config last year, but changed that later into the season due to reliability / performance issue's and now they've re-positioned them to this bottom-horizontal position.

Those ducts may actually stop some of the air that's shooting upwards from the wing interacting with the normal clean air going to the rest of the car.

Perhaps...

Brake ducts. They are situated under the front wing on the RB.

Picture 11, is that RB KERS? I wonder what changes have gone on so that they are testing it again this weekend.

So much for all the pro-pushrod guys saying how amazing the packaging on the Red Bull gearbox is. It looks a lot bulkier than the Williams gearbox and diff, and looks quite tall as well...

You mean pullrod?

Anyway... I don't see any detriment to this design. It's a bit tall, but it's very narrow from plan view and it's no taller than the upper wishbones. This works well on the RB7 because most of the airflow comes around the sidepods. Having a taller gearbox is less detrimental than having a wide one where it would actually impede flow. Plus, it can act as a 'shark fin' where it controls the air coming around the sidepods and directs it to the beam wing and diffuser.

I must say, I was a little disappointed reading the Scarbs article. Perhaps it seems underwhelming from a purely mechanical viewpoint, but it's quite clear to me how this was designed with the qualities of the RB7 in mind. Mentioning as much would at least show insight into the philosophy of the Red Bull vs. the Williams, for instance.

Horner on about front flex...
I find it very refreshing to see Vettel answering with the giant qualy lever again :D

Is it actually true and legal what Horner says? Due to the rake their FW sits lower? I thought the wing mustn't be closer to the ground than some xxx mm. No matter if you run high rake or very low rear suspension.

Note the small opening below the diff in this picture, probably for cooling.
