Ferrari SF-24

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It seems we're fully back to the 'reduce sidepod' paradigm, which consequently means that packaging is going to becoming incredibly crucial again. 2022 was a bit of fresh air in this regard given that Ferrari's aero concept worked well even with a wide sidepod design, but no more.
It's a strange world, make some specific parts slimmer while keeping the rest wide.

Ultimately everyone will converge to Redbull sidepods.

Thanks for sharing this, it confirms some of the changes of front end of the floor and made me look at other changes they introduced. Cobra winglet is now higher and seems slightly updated in the base as well, I think this confirms strong interaction with "AWS" vortex generator on Halo to control the cockpit losses along the engine cover "shelf"

SIS tube cover on the floor is much larger now, due to the fact Ferrari dropped down the outboard side of the floor inlet, which is better visible on the second photo. There we can also see parting lines between tooling pieces, while we can also see how the rest of the floor saw minimal changes by cutting out some pieces along the sidepod junction and is being reused to cut the costs down.

Finally, I'm not sure how accurate the launch render is, but we can definitely see the changes in geometry on outboard fences here in Barcelona. The inlet height itself does not seem to be reduced, but changes in geometry of the local tunnel are quite clear.

If all of these changes were indeed initially planned for Silverstone and then rushed to Barcelona, it was a very big effort from Ferrari and will certainly yield some improvements on track if their correlation is as good as it was in recent times.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Strange, there's nothing in the fia list about changing the sidepods, but visually they're changed.

Its listed as coke bottle/engine cover but then says that the sidepod has changed within that row

Quite an extensive list of changes, and at first glance i couldn't tell anything(other than the RW) was different.

The throat of the floor inlet is deeper in that it stays higher further downstream than before.

If you're thinking of vertical kicks and those certainly look like that, they had it on their 2nd 2022 floor already

While horizontal kicks were on the 24 launch spec floor already
