Perez had to go, but candidates for his seat are not that much better.
Yep, RB’s rivals will be pretty happy with the Lawson appointment. He’s bang awful similar to Checo, and will give RB the same headache. Glad it’s over, but I imagine this discussion will recommence at some point again next year.
It's more of a possible Albon situation to me. If he doesn't lose confidence (which doesn't strike me as an issue for Lawson) he could be alright.

Sainz was available and will now have to suffer at Williams.
Sainz will never be in the same team as Max unfortunately

During a press conference at the Red Bull headquarters in Milton Keynes today, a photo session was held with Liam Lawson
in his new Red Bull racing suit.

The editorial staff of LaatsteNieuws has just seen the images, which will be released by the team itself shortly,
together with a press release.

Assuming Lawson will get the drive, of the five (!) drivers Red Bull has ever put alongside Max, Lawson surely has to be the least qualified, no? He’s done 11 races and while hasn’t been far off of Tsunoda it’s not like he’s obliterated him either. Like Tsunoda he definitely has a head loss moment in him (Exhibit A: Mexico) so I don’t really see his temperament as being that exceptional like Red Bull seems to be so convinced it is. Basically he has Max’s red mist mentality but lacks the results or extraordinary display of potential to back it up.

Bottas would have probably driven for cheap and is literally a free agent. Tsunoda has put in his time. Sainz was available. So was Hulkenberg at one point. I’d love to be wrong but this hardly seems like a step forward from Checo except he doesn’t bring $20m. Baffling.

I would put my money on Lawson every day of the week against Perrez. Lawson is not a rookie, hes a seasoned professional who did great in DTM and had a convincing f1 debut and showing his seniority in not taking jack from anyone, including Perrez and Alonso. I like the kid - he has the fighting spirit needed for a champion.

From the RBR site:
.
Pérez Announces Departure For 2025

After four successful seasons together and following the conclusion of the longest Formula One season in history, Sergio Pérez & Oracle Red Bull Racing have reached an agreement to part ways for 2025.

As well as scoring five wins, including victory at the Monaco Grand Prix and a pair of Azerbaijan Grand Prix wins that earned him a reputation as ‘F1’s King of the Streets’, Checo helped the Team to two Constructors’ Championship titles, in 2022 and 2023. As a title runner-up in his own regard last year, he also sealed the Team’s first one-two finish in the Drivers’ standings.

Checo, said: “I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an amazing Team. Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience and I’ll always cherish the successes we achieved together. We broke records, reached remarkable milestones, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way. A big thank you to every person in the Team from the management, engineers and mechanics, catering, hospitality, kitchen, marketing and communications, as well as everyone at Milton Keynes, I wish you all the best for the future. It has also been an honour to race alongside Max as a teammate all these years and to share in our success. A special thank you to the fans around the world, and especially to the Mexican fans for your unwavering support every day. We’ll meet again soon. And remember…Never give up.”

Christian Horner, Team Principal and CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said: “I would like to thank Checo for all he has done for Oracle Red Bull Racing over the past four seasons. From the moment he joined in 2021 he proved himself to be an extraordinary Team player, helping us to two Constructors’ titles and to our first 1-2 finish in the Drivers’ championship. His five wins, all on street circuits, were also a spectacular mark of his determination to always push to the limit. While Checo will not race for the Team next season, he will always be an extremely popular Team member and a treasured part of our history. Thank you, Checo.”
