The car behaves very well in the high speed section. Beautifully balanced through the corners. Maybe lacking a bit of peak downforce compared to the top 3, but it's not horrible. Promising stuff for next year.
You can also see how the car struggles to rotate on the low speed corners as well. The bulk of that 8 tenths is lost on those type of corners. I really hope they rectify that issue with the handling on low-speed corners while maintaining the same level of performance in the high speed corners for 2020. If they manage it, we can probably even see a proper McLaren podium. Getting very excited right now, but we have to keep our expectations in tact. Philosophy changes can go either way. I am really hoping it turns out well for McLaren though. After all those tough years, they deserve it.

Norris 1st in Q1!!!

That’s amazing!!!... No one would have expected it this season!

Yes, it’s only Q1... It doesn’t matter! It’s in the history books now :)

This made me smile yesterday, what a lap that was in Q1

I hope for clean race today and some point in the bag

Norris was the first driver to top a qualifying session that has not been in the top three teams this year and maybe longer

It was encouraging also because it wasn’t in changing conditions, i.e a drying track, just track evolution. No amount of track evolution would have allowed for that kind of performance over the last couple of years.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

As much as I loved it, I think everyone at the top midfield could do that. Just use q3 settings and u are more or less topping q1.

Yes, probably but still it felt good to see NOR and MCL on the top at the end of Q1

Q1 doesn't determine the positions, top 3 teams just do a delta to be save and then its alright for them
but they aren't doing bad .....

Not really... Go plug the best times of the midfield in Q2-Q3 in Q1 and you won’t have that happen often.

What could it have been? An easy answer would be losing one or more of the gurney flaps they add for high downforce tracks... Interesting because nothing seem broken on the car

The parts' life had exceeded the ideal limit so they probably couldn't sustain stable air flow.

Also, wasn't Alonso supposed to join to the team for USGP?

If sainz did his q3 time in q1 would be P2 in Mexico, P1 in Japan, P2 in Russia and p3 in Singapore. So that sums it up..
