They did. The word from Mercedes was that it’s consumption went up ‘very sharply’ for about half a lap before the retirement.
Was it still within the 0,6l/100km directive?
The way It was reported it was miles outside norms so I imagine not.

TBH I agree with you that if we are going to penalise for an internal failure that causes a retirement then it’s time to give up and go home.

To me those late dives down the inside are a relative new thing. The old guard like Alonso and even the No 1 driver Hamilton would not attempt that, they would just about always decide to try around the outside once Perez had appeared to cover the inside.

And agree with this too, very risky move, but this sort of moves are what makes possible going from p20 to p3
