I don’t think it’s tyre degradation, my sense is car balance isn’t great in full fuel race mode. Not a problem that can be fixed easily.

Heavy fuel long runs look bad
Quite a lot of deg in this track as well on the mediums. First sector times going up yep.

Alo was able to average 1:34.6 in his first 7 laps, then he hit traffic.
Max is out of this world ...let's say 1:34.0
Perez average about 1:34.5

Piastri averaged 1:35

I didn't see a long run from Russell. He looked to try a 4 lap run of 1:34.3

Usually poor balance has a negative impact on tyre life. Unfortunately, following Ferrari the last few cars have been a disaster in this regard: SF 90, SF 1000 and SF 23 were all awful in race trim.

May I ask where that sense is coming from?

Alonso made a comment that he didn't like the Mediums for Launch. So I guess they were looking to start the race on Mediums.

So the car was struggling with rear deg on a front limited circuit. What does that mean for the car in general during races?

Norris was fighting with ride height all of FP2. So we'll see what they and everyone else comes up after crunching the numbers overnight.

I think Aston Martin followed the wrong approach, the one also followed by Ferrari in 2022 and especially 2023.

The right one is the one set by Red Bull. They created a platform in which you can produce extremely quick lap times in the race without destroying the tyres. This is the secret to win in this regulation cycle (in the past you could afford to be a bit weaker in the race, like MB in 2017).

Max is obviously a top driver, but he wouldn't be able to be that consistent with other cars in the grid. They have a know how advantage for sure.

What makes you think he was having rear deg issues?

Rear deg issues on a front limited track is kind of like having rear traction problems on a front wheel drive car.

Which team wouldn't try? Could they?

That's utter nonsense. Nobody ever tries NOT to build an all rounder. It just happens that whatever a human designs, it will have it's strength and weaknesses and they will not be the same strength and weaknesses as others. RBR have just started in the right direction and everyone is just trying to catch up. They haven't had to go through the complete redesigns of Merc, McLaren, Ferrari and Aston have gone through. So RBR find themselves ahead in the refinement process.
