Marussia MR03 Ferrari

Car already has the hydraulic actuation system. All that is needed is one more control valve in it, a line and DRS actuator. Connection between the button on the steering wheel and the hydraulic system would be done using the same digital bus as exists for all other buttons. I doubt that it would weigh more than 0.5 kg, probably much, much less. AFAIR last year it was claimed that 10 kg of fuel less means 0.3 s less in the lap time. Then the weight penalty of the DRS would be 0.015 s.

The only just got the car together to go testing, I don't think they're really all that bothered about making and trying out an already proven DRS system.

Marussia's website lists a wheelbase of 3700mm for the MR03, that's just huge (f1technical says the MR02 wheelbase was 3400mm).

I reckon they have the long wheelbase to get their weight distribution right now that powertrains have gotten heavier? Makes me wonder about the car's weight though, there's got to be a significant weight penalty if they want to keep the same chassis stiffness (or a stiffness penalty if they want to keep weight low).

It also helps explain how they managed their nice coke bottle shape (longer car - easier packaging).

Did anyone find any numbers for other cars' wheelbases (particularly Caterham would be interesting)?

There are some estimations on wheelbase here: http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... 12&t=17761. Some good work, but i dont think they have the marussia unfortunately.

So that 3700mm they were talking about might actually be correct. That car's a frickin' limousine :wtf:

John Booth has answered my question
autosport.com wrote:Marussia's focus for the upcoming Bahrain test, which starts on Wednesday, will be achieving reliability.

The Ferrari-engined Marussia MR-03 is set to race in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in a similar specification to the one already seen, although Booth confirmed there are some minor developments in the pipeline.

"We will have a few small changes, but nothing major," said Booth.

"We're only 190 people and it was pretty tough getting to Jerez but there is a windtunnel programme happening at the moment and there will be some modifications before Melbourne.

Marussia is fitting wool tufts in front of the rear wheel and monitoring it with a camera mounted at the rear wing endplate, old school aero... =D>
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

me too, definitely my b team for the year.

For a thumbs up can anyone tell me what would be the difference between this and flow viz.I assume they both look at the boundary layer, but why didn't marussia just use flow vis in that case? is it expensive?

I think the advantage is that you can see the difference of the air flow between drive on the straight line and in a turn.
