Renault F1 R.S. 20 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The wishbones look closer together, and the lower one looks slimmer.
Hard to tell, the angle is different. To me it looks quite similar when you take the angle into account.

They're definately much higher mounted on the upright than last year, you can see the control arm angles are similar in the shots even though the new car is in full droop and the old one is loaded up in a corner.

It’s making people talk about it... You are doing it, a lot of people is doing it... It isn’t about secret parts, just been different then the rest and there is nothing wrong with it

The top element is very full compared to others, with a serious step near the endplate..
Hopefully we get a view of the bargeboard area on Wednesday

If you zoom right in on the right-hand wing, you can see a very radical twist in the top element that appears to be designed to very forcibly drive outwash! It should be interesting to see how well this works compared to other solutions - they seem to have prioritized downforce over drag (unlike Ferrari).

They had that last year. It came with an upgrade towards the end of the season.
Zoom in to see their front wing at brazil last year (right side has better light) https://i2.wp.com/f1chronicle.com/wp-co ... C435&ssl=1

Another thing that I would like to point out. I am no aerodynamic expert btw, so don't take my word for granted. Forcing the air to go to a certain position abruptly like Renault is doing is not the best option because the air will lose a lot of energy that way. They are probably using that because it's the best compromise for them at the moment in terms of front downforce and outwash generation.

They have really gone with the current slim nose/cape and having the suspension members high up. The nose looks to have a really nice clean profile, I expect Mercedes nose will look similar pretty soon.
New air box design and no more s duct ?

Interesting and I wonder if they went with the Mercedes like nose since that will be similar to what is on all cars for 2021. Not sure what it does to make the Renault better and hopefully it will give Daniel something to play with.

Yes it's an evolution of their latest 2019 FW that appeared in Suzuka. All their 2019 wings had that extension (?) near the endplate at the "outwash" zone, equiped with big ass gurney flaps, but now the extension goes higher
Maybe it aims to place a big chunk of the dirty air directly in front of the blowing wheel so the latter can blow it away? #CFD_eyes
But the brake ducts look the same as 2019.
