Alpine A523

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Many interesting small details here, like the little notches on the top edges of the nose. The aim might be to let air escape sideways & prevent it from producing too much lift (anti-DF) in that area where lift is inevitable. (red arrows)
Nice downwashing cannons. The A522B was straight

This also shows how the engine/rollhoop cover got slimmer.

What are the main advantages for their change in nose and fw main plane design? Like they've gone towards the early Aston Martin '22 approach

That all makes sense to me. I guess my thinking is why swap to that in year 2? Especially with tyres arriving that will reward more front df

Are they swapping to this because they've found a very powerful floor solution that they want to exploit to the max? Or is it possible because of the new front suspension approach? Or the more modular nose/front wing lets them take this risk

Or just a combination of these factors

This probably isn't answerable without inside info into the team. It's just what I've been toiling with recently with so many teams changing their nose/fw concept in the 2nd year which I didn't expect at all

The optimistic me would say they found an FW/nose combination that produces a lot of DF (which si good for the new tires indeed) and tried to raise it, but it still produced a lot of DF, so they retained the raised version because it is good for the rest of the car : )

Now give us the realistic version

I've thought about rake, but I don't think they've set this up for running some rake in slower corners? Does look like it can stuff more air underneath in fast corners, then in slow corners with rake, give more front end and help pivoting the car?

I just have a pessimistic version that is not realistic : P

The floor leading edge matches the render. The more curvy new edge is lower inboard... But the mouth volume might be a bit bigger...

Thanks.
Boat-tail shape and diffuser kick look different.

A523 has lower sidepods than A522, so that rib/ridge/dip looks more extreme.
But I think the top side impact structure, A.K.A S.I.S or SIPS remained at a similar height as 2022

Is it me or there is a secondary dip, inboard, 'under the BP Ultimate' ?

Sadly the angles are not the same. The A522 front wheel is closer to the camera...
So we must wait for better pics*

There is an interestin flick-up on RW endplate
