Marko just said that VER had a little wobble in turn 2, which cost him a bit of time. He is confident, as the long runs were looking good, and there's still some speed to come. He doesn't really see any other competitor but McLaren.

Agree. With the current cars it is a dangerous corner. With every formula other places become more (and less) critical, but with these cars this corner is now too dangerous.

Tyre usage after FP2:

Image

HAM and STR were the drivers who ran on softs for the race sim with the former being the only one on the top teams maybe trying to figure out if a 3-stop strategy could work here ...

At this circuit, according to the data in the past, the higher the top speed is in S1 the lower the fuel in the car is ...

interesting long runs, Ham on the softs is slower than everyone (13 laps old now) but he's doing 1.24.6's lap after lap while others drop off on the medium and hards so far, Max doing consistent 1.24's on the mediums (15 laps old)
They are simulating various stints in the race, some at the beginning others at the end of it and very few for a 3-stopper ... what is more interesting is that the tyres that were (almost) not used were the softs and the hards, so the medium tyre will be the main race tyre here.

Once again, the Softs are junk for race. It's only qualifying tyre.

With these temps it's not a surprise to anyone

Hamilton flat-spotted his set of mediums, so he had to run softs for the longrun. It was not the initial plan.

Bottas had to abort his fastest lap due to the yellow flag. Best sector times would put him in 4th - and that includes two sectors on used tires.

Fuel loads and engine modes obviously must have played a part there, but still remarkable that the Sauber had pace for potentially P2 today.

Probably a very good allocation to have.

Marko mentioned it as an advantage over McLaren in his post-practice interview, but it honestly feels more like they saved hards because they need them, while Ferrari and McLaren probably don't. I'd think all those teams went for the likely best option for them.

I suppose RB have the option of choosing either 2 meds or 2 hards using the long run data from fp2 whereas some teams have already made the decision "blind"

Yeah, having the option plays into their hands. Of course there will be one to run tomorrow in FP3
