Mercedes W16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

"Focal length" is not the distance between the image plane and the subject.

It's entirely the geometry of the lens optic and its ability in recording the visible light forming the image.

Thats not a moot point, it can't explain any discrepancy and cannot be used to make dimensional judgement in this case.

Those lines are not even remotely honest... The red line is sitting spot-on on top of that Mercedes wing on the left image, while the yellow is clearly cutting through the upper flap on the right... Not to mention, the focal lenght on those cameras are unlikely to be the exact same, a more relevant and good faith comparison would be the dip measured IN PROPORTION to the base heights of the wings, but even then it's a medium-high DF wing vs low-medium DF (in comparison to McLaren)....
Right, merc wing is as stiff as a rock

Alright, I'm not going to argue with you guys any further, let's just agree to disagree on this one... We'll soon see if anything develops from this "controversy" or not....

If we are judging by history, never seems to with Mercedes. Very risk averse relative to other teams.

This wing is actually tilting back MORE than MCL38 wing design that got banned after Baku and MORE than RB16B flex wing from Spain 2021

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GkyP-5EWgAE ... ame=medium
MCL38 wing wasn't banned because it was twisting as a whole, it was banned because the edges of the flap twisted and slightly opened up the DRS flap (as you know).

That rear wing Is not stiff, the whole wing itself is obviously squishing itself a bit but nothing too extreme.

I think one could come to the conclusion that Mercedes borrowed slightly from the 2022 Ferrari and that its unconventional design was a model.
