Red Bull RB21

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

from all the pics I have seen, I think the RB21 has, compared to RB20, 'earlier drooping' sidepod water slide ; the side pod seems to 'drop' into the floor, much ahead of the rear wheel, than it did for RB20.
Does it seem to be the case to you guys as well, or am I under a strange illusion ?

Can someone explain to me where that air from the inlet besides the head support goes?

Interesting, it doesn't seem to go anywhere. It's official purpose is supposed to be cooling. From the AMR25 thread, I read there is an annoying turbulent flow in that area, and these "cooling" slots deal with that.

Maybe it's better to have the air directed internally even if it does nothing but move along and exit at the exhaust pipe outlet.

I think it goes over the water cooler to the intercooler but I haven`t seen a picture to confirm it.

Now that they've "fixed" the nose, IMO they need to tighten up the engine cover and make the exit hole narrower. The rear is still skittish.

Everybody was skittish with all the issues with wind. Today the Red Bull didn't seem to be that bad.

The interesting part is, the 25 car and its updates, is all about backtracking the ideas that made the 24 car different, lol, i know they won and all, but they went wrong with that ridicules cooling layout in 24, attaching the nosecone to the fw mainelement etc etc. Now lets see if the team around wache, that horner put his money on, are as good as they think

Shorter nose and more compliant first element probably helped compared to the first two days. But the rear needs more DF, and we can see why

To be honest I am more worried about the reliability of the RB21 as they did the least amount of laps at only 304. Max definitely looked better with the new RB18/19 style front wing. I think the RB21 is more about figuring out where there tools are letting them down back at the factory so they can be ready to go with the RB22. This is why it looks so similar to RB20 and why they were running flo vis still so late on day 3.

As I understand their low running was due to frequent setup changes, chasing for the best configuration.
So not reliability related. I only remember a minor issue of dropping water pressure.

looks like I was not hallucinating afterall. The 'drop' of the sidepod is more drastic.
Plus noticed a few more changes w.r.t the shroud around the overhead crash-structure-cum-engine-air-intake and also the shorter nose.
