It would be kinda cool if you repeated that "fast CFD analysis" with the front wing at different distances from the ground. Possibly by bending it rather than lowering it, or even better, both. Would add quite a bit to the flexi-wings debate.
Rivals, not enemies. (Now paraphrased from A. Newey).

Actually it looks like the Renault R26-R29 sidepods. Or that's what I think anyway :P

I was trying to run the whole car in CFDesign, but I received a message:
Meshing error: Insufficent memory available to complete mesh generation (code 250)
Does adding RAM solve the problem?

You not what will solve the problem far quicker imo?

Simplifing the model.

It's far too complex for a single system imo.

Apart from not enough RAM for meshing, it could well crash when solving, with not enough processing power for the model.

Also, with meshing, how experienced are you? Various meshing techniques can reduce meshing time, and solving time. I dont want to go off topic here, but meshing is a science in its own right these days and IMO is by far one of the biggest variables you can have when comparing CFD results.

Go to your mesh settings and reduce the cells in the mesh. You can reduce detail on parts that you may not be so interested in. And keep the detail on things like under the wings.
For Sure!!

Tonn, first time posting here, and I must say well done with the modeling. Are you still using the free version of Alibre? I'm impressed.

I have some experience with CFdesign (though it's at work, so not sure if I could run your model, though I'd like to try). First thing I'd recommend is splitting the model in half lengthwise and putting a symmetry boundary plane in the center, if you haven't already. That should cut your model size in half, and not matter much in results unless you're trying to model turns. There is a "mirror" function so you can view the results as if you'd modeled the whole thing.

What version of the program are you using? The later ones have some much better mesh refinement options that should let you target areas of interest better; v2011 will be even more improved based on the betas. Also, make sure you're running the 64-bit version and definitely throw as much RAM in the system as you can.

Finally, definitely make sure you play with the different turbulence models, though I'd recommend fiddling with smaller models than your full car, to see which ones match published results better. CFdesign is in general very good at fairly quick, back-to-back comparisons of different designs, and that's what I'd focus on. But I've found it's hard to get reliable drag numbers for external flows without a really dense mesh, and even then you're going to have only moderate wake results with the turbulence models available... that's why the teams have very expensive flow codes with hundreds of processors available.

Good luck.

I have tried all those options (mirroring, cut my mesh points, shutted all others programs and unnecessary processes and on and on) but I still have to admit that my computer isent good enough.

Cureently I am useing Alibre Design Expert 12 and CFDesign V10
But I am planning to start useing AutoCAD!!!

Tonn,

I'd love to grab some of these models from you. I'm joining in on this thread pretty late, but I find the topic of discussion to be quite interesting. Especially since I've worked for CFdesign (Blue Ridge Numerics, recently acquired by Autodesk) for about seven years now.

Anything you can share?

James
