Renault R30

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I see, that both wings are low drag, Monza spec a'like. Alain Permane said it's a track about speed, low drag and good mechanical grip. Seems promising for R30. I'm curious what max speed will have R30 against F-duct bolids.

I was expecting bigger differences on the speed traps...

Bad Renault in Montreal. I do not know why this is so, I anticipated them at the top of the free training and then only on the 8th place of Kubica. I anticipated that it will be competitive, you may be mistaken. It seems that the car is ready to setup for Monza, but not for Montreal. Miss them a little downforce in the initial and secondary sector, but have strong speed trap, which is good.

Kubica said, they were having huge problem with tyres and if you were watching FP2, you could have seen, he was sliding a lot. I think it was too cold for R30 to work properly its tyres.

This is actually good for Renault, it means they'll still have competitive top speeds if they decided to crank up some downforce, let's see what happens tomorrow, I'm pretty sure you will see them in the 16's as the track rubbers in a bit more and the R30 runs a bit more downforce.

Everybody seems to be struggling to get the tyres up to the temperature, especially with severe graining on the super soft tyres available. As the news is, it might be that for the first time this year that we might see two-stop strategies playing a role in this GP with the first stop being on or before lap 15 or so. Interesting, eh?

Renaults are obviously running lesser wings
Thats why they have the highest top speed and have laptimes in the midfield

Kubica did Q3 on primes. Quite a gamble...

He had the third best S2 and S3... he lost too much time in S1.

Yeach, especially when You look at his tire degradation... and the rim too :D

Hopefully he will push hard in the race but not through the wall.

@RF1 Paddock Pass
"Only three drivers on hard tyres in the top ten - Red Bull and Robert. It's very tight, even so, and his best lap on hard tyres in Q3 was nearly identical to his best on softs in Q2. It's a calculated risk for tomorrow, but even if the safety car comes out early, it will be very hard for anybody to run nearly the whole race on prime tyres. Plus Robert has one of the highest top speeds of all, so will be in a position to overtake... All is not lost, guys. Far from it, in fact. Keep the faith!
----
We don't expect rain for tomorrow at this stage, no. As for the delta between soft and hard, it's not as much as four tenths - but the warm-up was better on the softs, for obvious reasons. We've made the same strategic choice as Red Bull, so we'll see how it goes... "

It happened in Q3 on best lap in sector S1. He lost about 0.15s so in a clean lap he would be about 6th after Button primes. On primes he would be 0.35-0.35s slower than RBR. On simulated softer compound he could be even before Alonso. RF1 seems to be faster than MGP.

It seems it was rather bad strategic decision. I'm waiting for their B-spec car.
