Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Of course, air is directed there. The entire idea behind this - and every other car's solutions - is to get as much air as possible to the beam wing, rear wing, diffuser, etc.

This just happens to be elegant as hell.

If they can keep the airflow under the bridge attached it's definitely going to go into the hole. Question is can they? I think so.

First things first.

There is no DDD.

They are not blowing the diffuser.

The starter hole looks massive, but is probably angled or Red Bull are using a loophole to work around the size rules.

The exhaust looks illegal to me, seems to break the 3 degree cone rule.

I think it's pointing more outward than you'd expect.

Interesting how big that turning vane is above the diffuser. Looks like it's aiming to keep exhaust flow around the sides to seal the flow again. Sneaky buggers.

left sidepod paint is lifting in bubbles...

nice details on that car but the overall concept is just so smooth...it almost looks like they are the only ones to not work in solids but use freeformshaping..
that rear crash structure top surface seems to be concave w -shaped in crosssection? the rear wing has picked up Ferraris solution with the endplate meeting the wing treatment..

Aren't the starter hole sizes regulated?

Yes, but those aren't the starter hole.

Why would it not be? Which rule do you think it breaks?

i just had a thought...could that hole hide inside a cooling exit from the sidepods??? that would increase the volume of flow to the diffuser...
