Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Gills again? Really? I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I feel right now...I thought they solved the issues, I can't recall any other of the Big-4 in the last 2 years using such amateur cooling solutions. Way to go Merc...

The Red Bull has an opening by the cockpit now for cooling. It's not gills, but one gill.

There are no cooling issues here. We'll see different versions of the car for different tracks.

Might have just brought them to be safe, since it is cool in barcelona compared to melbourne and they couldnt perhaps for see what temps they will be getting.

Dren this is only the case if the Red Bull opening is indeed for cooling purposes. One should always be suspicious of Adrian Newey, it might be something completely different. I am not sure about the cooling issues. If they were so sure that everything works fine then they shouldn't have the gills even if it is a precautionary measure.

IMO this is their cooling package for Malaysia and Bahrain where the temps will be well in excess of 35 degrees. They'll most likely run it on just one of the cars to verify it.

How do you verify a package for 35+ degrees; in 15 degree cooler temps? :?

I don't think you could just "normalise" it by setting them up to run 15 degrees cooler than optimal in Melbourne.

Scarbs to analyze how he believes the Mercedes F-Duct front wing work via the Rear wing DRS. On his blog shortly. :))

If this technology really exists, this could be a major advantage in qualifying (because you can use the DRS in all the lap), but our performance in the race would come down, right? We would have to worry if the car in qualifying does not reach the top positions?

No more gills please. Can't they put some tape over them? Ugh.

If the DRS is indeed activating the front f-duct...

3 races and it's banned, if that!!!

There are tests for things like wing flex, this will be a case of "does that pipe go from there to there?" yes "banned".

All that work, wasted.

Make the most of Australia, it will probably be the best race for Mercedes this year.
