Just when was that? Can-Am had driver adjustable wings...I don't think F1 ever did.Further, in years gone, there were adjustible rear and front wings, and few, if any accidents attributable to these

Incorrect. Currently the front wing is adjustible. And in the 60's there were quite a number of cars running with adjustible wings!andrew wrote:F1 has never had driver adjustable wings.
What I can see happening is a driver adjusting a rear wing too much or adjusting the wing to "pass", not adjust it back to where it needs to be, go round a corner and become part of the track-side scenery. Not a good idea at all.
So was I, in relation to the 60's. Get your facts right.andrew wrote:I was referring to rear wings.
Some cars DID run with adjustible wings, particularly after the Chapparral showed what could be done. From recollection, at least Brabham and Lotus had them at times. They were not outlawed for a period of time. One team, (can't remember who) actually experimented with using the wing as a brake, but i suppose that it was an early form of wing stalling. in other words, the wing was nearly flat on straights, but using it for corners, gave the car more grip and stopping power.wesley123 wrote:the wings in the sixties werent driver activated

Rather childish and pedantic comment! So, I left out Ferrari and possibly some others. Big deal! But I will give you a hint anyway. GOOGLE!andrew wrote:Yes, Brabham and Lotus are the same as Ferrari(!)
I've looked up the 312 but the information I found didn't mention anything about wings. Care to point me in the right direction Gilgen?
