Red Bull RB8 Renault

It could be – but I doubt it, their cannon exit above the beam wing seems more than sufficient.
i dont disagree...but what i thought isn't that they need more cooling...just for increased flow to the diffuser...

The starter hole ???
Where you see it ??
I was commenting on the post above when I replied.

@beelsebob that's what I was thinking. Very complex & elegant solution.

Ok

Take a look at the line I've drawn where the floor meets the side pod, and the circle surrounding the reflection on the flat floor. It's deffinately open

It's open in both pictures.

As someone once told me: When in doubt, it's probably a reflection, shadow or other optical illusion. I promise

I know it looks closed, & it's hard to tell your eyes it's not seeing what it think it is, but.

Ok then. My laptop screen is not optimal, so I accept what everyone is saying.

Yes it's optical illusion created by reflection from that shiny floor coating thats why you can't see the tunnel.

I was thinking about something more complex about exhaust fumes route.

Image

It feeds partly central diffusor channel thanks to the massive starter hole or wathever it is & partly the side of the diffusor same as last year. Would it be possible?

I was thinking much the same thing. It could only work at high speed. Could the exhaust fire at the brake duct fins at low speed then move to the diffuser as the down-wash from the sidepods increases at speed?

I doubt that one, because it involves flowing across a painted area of side pod – that seems to suggest that the exhaust is pushed off the edge and "jumps" the air flowing around the pods.

After the whole day of running the exhaust fumes will leave some trace on the bodywork so we will be able to predict where they flow.

To me it looks like they're attempting to split the exhaust flow. Towards the edge and the centre of the diffuser.

Why is the slot on top of the sidepod open on the right, but closed on the left?

(first time poster so sorry if this allready was asked somewhere)

Is it really legal to channel the exhaust like rbr are doing now?
The rule clearly states that you can't channel the exhaust #-o
