Merc's race pace is worse than their qualifying without a doubt. Hamilton was very lucky to finish 3rd. They really need to sort this out. It is good considering where they were last year, but still...

Yup! That's the cure.

The thing is they are looking good because McLaren has messed their car up this year. Mercedes have replaced them in the order. McLaren has improved their car nicely. So there is the danger of being caught up again for Mercedes

Yep... right now the order is:

Quali Pace:
1) Mercedes
2) Ferrari
3) Red Bull = Lotus

Race Pace

1) Ferrari
2) Lotus
3) Red Bull
4) Mercedes

Though I did notice that first two races the Merc was slower in the speed traps but seemed to have better race pace... but now they have better speed but te race pace has been affected. Is it increased downforce? Or did they just not get the setup right this weekend?

I don't know if that is true that Red Bull is better than Mercedes or worse than Lotus. After China you just cannot state that due to different strategies. Ferrari is strong mainly because of Alonso, Massa is just nowhere near him in race. I believe Alonso would be very close to win in Malaysia, but Massa was not.

Also with Rosberg and Webber out you just cannot determine where RBR is with Vettel running very fast on super soft last few laps. It's just not realistic! Mercedes clearly needs more downforce, also tyre deg is a little bit higher than Ferrari's. Also if you look Lotus, Grosjean is nowhere near Raikkonen, he just wonders around in race.

We are gonna have to wait a little bit more to see race pace. Can't compare it with different strategies :!:

still off the pace :) was a good race for Lewis with an amazing last lap (smart place to overtake caterham and block vettel  ) atm Merc is behind Ferrari Lotus and Red Bull so with this car Ham manage an amazing result.

In just 1 week they can't do too much but i expect a strong Mercedes in Spain and especially in Monaco. Disappointing race for Nico (don't know what happen after first pit)
So in conclusion Mercedes have a good start now let's hope that they'll keep the pace till end...

Rosberg's mechanical failures are costing Mercedes in the constructors Championship which is where they really need the points. More money for the big push next year. Sort it out Mercedes you need two car finishes at every race especially one like china where the car is more suited.

Wow, how much are you opssesed with money. First you stealing others engineers and give them double salary then they had in previous team, now it's rosberg fault because they need money for devolopment

Are you serious? So that's the reason, not the work they did during the winter?

How are Mechanical Failures Rosbergs fault? its the teams fault, and I am not part of Mercedes for one thing im saying they need to sort it out. And this is actually the first post I've put about money and it is important, more money to spend equals more success. Which is the whole point of the constructers championship.

Merc's setup of W04 got away from them from the day before and even qualifying. Rosberg's win last year was just a hair quicker than Alonso's this year, and we know for a fact W04 is quicker than W03 meaning the setup circumstances for W04 just freakishly changed with the track/weather etc.

Good result regardless though, can't complain.

If W04 can keep with RB9 in Bahrain next week (RB will be devastatingly quick at that circuit) than Merc should have a real whack at 3rd in the WCC, or 2nd depending on how well the car continues to develop.
