The allocation for the start of 2024 is nice and will mean some extra help with development but I believe the allocation that was relevant for the 2024 car had them at even higher WT numbers
It did, the start of the season being not so good meant we got decent time for Tunnel and CFD in the second half of the season, having finished the first half in 6th place and being allocated 1140 hours compared to RBs 840 before penalty. We start the season with 30% more time in the Tunnel than RB as well as a 30% higher test count limit and 30% more "Wind On" hours.
By the way, no MCL38 Speculation thread?

Stella quote from interview with AMuS. Indicates the time they've clawed back and what remains to be gained

It's a long interview posted as a series of tweets, it's interesting but a hard read!

A second and a half off RBs race pace at the start of the season and 2-4 tenths off at the end of the season so a whopping 1.1-1.3 seconds found over the year.

But just 2-4 tenths off now, this feels tighter than I would have thought, you'd think the median is in the upper end of that number. The article also suggests that RB found .5 seconds over the last winter, which is probably where Zak had said previously that we need half a second to keep up with Red Bull this winter.

Really? Half a second over a winter? I’d thought it would have been more…. I had a second per lap on my mind.

Whatever the number is….. you get the feeling Mclaren have found that amount of laptime but it’s just a case of how much have Red Bull and the others found?

To be honest I’d be nervous if Mclaren have only improved by half a second.
Just a fan's point of view

Reading that and looking at those numbers, you can't help feel positive and think that we are within reach.

We had one major upgrade more than RB and slashed 1.1 - 1.3 seconds from their lead. A big and very good upgrade might bring half a second I guess but given the scope of what Mclaren want to do for next year, it feels like this is well within reach.

Maybe we can close the gap on RB by the seasons start and I'm being pessimistic?

The changes to the team were being mooted as far back as July 22... seems like the writing was on the wall even before the winter.

It's good that Zak is not content with just good. He and the whole team must keep pushing relentless. They should not just target the top. They must push for complete domination. Considering that they did so much with an old outdated facility in Cologne, they dont have any excuses to do even more now with the new facility and the new personnel cause this time they seem to know what to do compared to back in 2021.

And finally, a really surprising bit of info. The upgrades in design and production took a total of 4 months for both the Austria (And surround races) and Singapore Updates.

4 Months for the bulk of the time we found last season.

That is so impressive. That's less than we had to Develop the 2024 car  But I don't think we will find the same time :D

Thanks for finding that organic, a really informative interview.

Hopefully this time we left that bad decade behind and we are gonna take a step to first place on merit.
