100th championship point for Kubica
Robert Kubica's third place at the European Grand Prix saw him pass a significant milestone: the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver picked up another six World Championship points last weekend in Valencia, and has now won exactly 100 points throughout his entire career to date.
The points are spread out over the past three years: Robert has claimed 55 points so far in the 2008 Formula One season. After just twelve races, this is already 16 points more than he picked up in the hole of last year (39). In his first season for the BMW Sauber F1 Team, the Pole gained six points.
Robert's position in the Drivers' World Championship has, accordingly, improved year by year: in 2006 the Pole ended the BMW Sauber F1 Team's debut year in 16th. In 2007 he improved this by 10 places. This year, Robert is currently in fourth place overall, two points behind Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen.
Robert's good result in Valencia was crucial, while Räikkönen left the "Valencia Street Circuit" pointless: The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver's good qualifying was "the weekend's decisive moment". "I was third on the grid, and it turned out today that I had more fuel on board than the two cars ahead of me," said Kubica. "For that reason, the qualifying laps were particularly good. That was the key."
