Kubica has chances to make it to the very top - Theissen
With a total of ten points scored and Robert Kubica clearly closing in on the championship leaders, the Italian GP proved to be a success for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. According to BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, the currently third-placed driver has got chances of securing an even better championship position.
With 64 points on his tally, Robert currently holds third position, behind Lewis Hamilton (78) and Felipe Massa (77). "It's a situation still offering Robert the chance of making it to the very top in the World Championship," says Theissen. And indeed: last year, the future World Champion, Kimi Räikkönen, had to cope with a 17-point gap to championship leader Lewis Hamilton with just two more races to go - to ultimately secure the long-lost World Championship title, nevertheless.
Nonetheless, Robert's theoretical title chances don't mean that he now will be favoured by the team. Mario Theissen confirms that both drivers enjoy the same rights. "There is no hierarchy meaning that we say one of our drivers is our No 1 and the other our No 2, prior to a race. Our team is set up in a way that both our drivers will be provided with the same support, the same resources and the same know-how. Then, you just have to wait and see what happens in the race. At the same time, it goes without saying that Robert can rely on our full support."
