Briatore over the moon with Renault's progress
Flavio Briatore, team boss of the Renault F1 Team, praised the job done by his outfit during the recent months and this after a disappointing 2007 season. In the beginning of the 2008 season Renault was still struggling due to the difficulties it experienced last season, but now it seems that the French outfit has finally recovered.
After winning the Singapore Grand Prix two weeks ago, Fernando Alonso could climb on the highest scaffold again at the Fuji Speedway yesterday. His team boss, Flavio Briatore was over the moon with the result and reckons that the R28 was the quickest car in the Japanese race.
"Alonso's victory confirms that Renault have been very competitive for at least four or five races," declared the flamboyant Italian in the 'Gazzetta dello Sport'.
"We've done a tremendous job at the factory in the last three months, and in Shanghai you'll see another new thing. If the car works well, so do the drivers. This time it wasn't a question of taking advantage of opportunities, like in Singapore. This time the Renault was the quickest car. After 18 laps we were doing better than Ferrari and Hamilton."
