Drivers want ex-colleague as race steward
Several Formula One drivers are calling for a complete steward overhaul and this after the controversial penalties in the last couple of races. The drivers want to go back to permanent stewards and they suggest that one of their ex-colleagues should be appointed as a permanent steward.
Kimi Raikkonen declared: "It would keep people happier that every time you get the same decision. Maybe if there would be an older driver there would be more respect and people wouldn't complain as much. It's only that people want to have the same thing happening every time, the same penalties and same rules."
Jenson Button said to members of the press at Shanghai that he believes F1 needs someone with experience as a steward. "We need someone with experience," the Briton declared. "I think the stewards do a good job, but having an experienced driver on board would help, but not one from 15 to 20 years ago because so much has changed. We need someone who has been involved in the sport and knows about this problem of going off the circuit and coming back on."
Raikkonen and Button are not the only drivers asking for this kind of improvement, but a name of an ex-colleague hasn't come up yet.
