Barrichello hosts karting event for Honda team in Sao Paulo
On the Wednesday prior to the Brazilian Grand Prix, the Honda Racing F1 Team's Rubens Barrichello took his Honda team for an afternoon of karting at his local kart track 'Granja Viana' in Sao Paulo. Hosting the event for a third year in succession, the circuit witnessed an afternoon of intense competition as three qualifying rounds narrowed down the field of ninety competitors.
The top twenty racers took to the track for the ten minute final as the light fell and rain threatened toward the end of the afternoon. Despite starting from the back of the reverse grid, Rubens and his Honda team-mate Jenson Button scythed through the field in the early laps to be fighting their own battle for second and third, with Rubens just beating Jenson over the line at the end of the race.
However, neither driver was able to catch the overall winner who streaked away from the front of the grid whilst Rubens and Jenson were making their way up the field. At the end of the race, Rubens presented the winner with a signed race helmet, before the team headed for a well-deserved dinner back in the city.
