South Africa to bring F1 back to the African continent?
South Africa has made it clear that they are serious about bringing Formula One back to their country and this as a new company has been formed to bring the pinnacle of motorsport to Kyalami. The Guateng Motorsport Company was launched yesterday at the circuit that used to host the South African GP.
Speaking at the press conference at Kyalami, Mandla Nkomfe, Guateng member of the executive council stated: "We are delighted that the day has finally come where we are able to share with you our vision for the future of motorsport in Guateng, South Africa. Gauteng has the ability and the competency to deliver world class events with excellent facilities and it's high time we bring these events back to the country for our people."
The Kyalami track obviously needs soms upgrading and F1 track designer Herman Tilke and F1 race director Charlie Whiting have already visited the venue.
