New title loss could have damaged Hamilton says Schumacher

Seven times World Champion Michael Schumacher declared that if Lewis Hamilton would have failed to clinch the 2008 title, it would have extremely damaged his reputation. In 2007, Hamilton lost the title in the final race of the season, in 2008 however Lewis clinched his first title in the final race with only 1 point more than Felipe Massa.

Michael Schumacher said to the Italian newspaper 'La Repubblica': "If Lewis had lost the title again in the final round of the season it would have really damaged his reputation. If it happens to you once it is an anecdote but when it happens to you twice it is starting to become a habit. If we saw the championship title slip through his fingers again in the final round it could have been an ill omen for the rest of his career."
