Fernando was the best driver of 2008 - Coulthard
ING Renault F1 Team driver Fernando Alonso has been hailed as the best driver of the 2008 season by former Red Bull driver David Coulthard. Alonso finished the season fifth in the driver standings and won two races with a car that was no real match for the Ferrari, McLaren and BMW.
Coulthard declard to the Spanish newspaper 'AS': "As I said in other interviews, for me, Fernando was the best driver in 2008 even though the car was not up to the task. He continued working and eventually achieved two wins at the end of the season."
