di Montezemolo expects Ferrari to be stronger after Australia
Much like in 2008, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo expects his team to bounce back into competiveness during this weeks Malaysian GP, after a horrible double DNF in Australia. And like McLaren's Martin Whitmarsh, di Montezemolo believes that teams who got a head start in 2008 for their new car have an advantage this season, since the top teams had to develop their cars up until the last race of the season.
"I expect to see the true balance of power in Malaysia on a more conventional circuit than Melbourne," said di Montezemolo to 'ITVF1' in an interview. "There’s no doubt that we’re paying the price for the 2008 championship, which was fought until the last corner of the last lap of the last Grand Prix.
"Like McLaren, we had to develop our car right up to the end, while the others were able to begin work on completely new projects several months earlier.
"Let’s not forget that this year’s car isn’t an evolution. So those who had the extra time were able to gain a head start.
While also touching up on the diffuser controversy, "I want clarity over the regulations. Let’s not good to start a season with such important question marks." Although if one recalls back to the week before the Australian GP, the FIA stewards deemed all controversial diffusers legal to race, therefore there shouldn't be any question marks over their legality.
