Renault and Altran launch 6th edition of Altran Engineering Academy

By on

The Altran Engineering Academy returns for its sixth edition this year giving young graduates the chance to compete for a six-month work placement in the Research and Development department of the ING Renault F1 Team.

Launched in 2004, the Altran Engineering Academy has proved to be a valuable platform for young graduates who aspire towards working at the highest level of motorsport. The opportunity to enter the world of Formula 1 represents a unique opportunity for all the candidates who must prepare a project to demonstrate technical innovation. The winner of this international competition will be provided with accommodation in nearby Oxford, the use of a car, and will be supported by an Altran expert to ensure they get the most from the experience.

The candidates hoping to win this unique opportunity will need to prepare a presentation showing technological innovation in one of the following areas: aerodynamics, power, performance engineering, vehicle dynamics, control systems, electronics, materials transducers and fuel technology. This year's partnership with Total is the occasion to focus the competition specifically on energy efficiency, one of the most important concepts for Total and its commitment to providing a sustainable response to the growing energy demand.

Previous winners of the competition, such as Brazil's Gustavo Brambilla in 2008, have shown that the chance to spend six months with the team has played a major role in determining their career paths. Some of the participants in this competition are today employed by the team, while others will be considered for future roles.

Robin Tuluie, Head of Research and Development for the ING Renault F1 Team explains: "The competition attracts a large number of young people who have a passion for our industry and who are not intimidated by the complexity of our environment. Their involvement over the last five years has been valuable in terms of the technical contribution, and a rewarding experience."

Anne-Laure Sanguinetti, Head of the partnership for Altran, adds: "Participating in this competition, which attracts hundreds of young applicants from the best universities and schools worldwide, gives them a chance to share a thirst for challenge with Altran and the ING Renault F1 Team. Every year, we are faced with a tough choice and impressed by their ability to defend their ideas in front of the jury."

Philippe-Franck Girard, from the Scientific Department of Total and member of the 2009 AEA Jury says: "We're very pleased and proud to be part of this technological partnership with ING Renault F1 Team and Altran. Helping to discover new talents among young graduates is a fantastic challenge. We hope that they will bring innovative ideas, especially in the domain of energy efficiency. It is our duty to open up our world to the new generations so they understand the complexity of our industry."

Candidates for this year can complete their applications on the official site for the 2009 competition: http://www.altran-academy.com. The deadline for applications is May 22nd.
