Our car was good enough to make it into the points - Heidfeld
Although Nick Heidfeld failed to finish in the points at the Turkish Grand Prix, the performance of the BMW Sauber F1.09 offered encouragement for races ahead. After a disappointing race in Istanbul, the German is now looking forward to Silverstone.
"I am disappointed with how the race panned out for me," said Nick Heidfeld, who had to battle with braking and tyre problems shortly after the start, and consequently dropped down a few places. "I was hoping to pick up some points - particularly as our car, with its new aerodynamic package and double diffuser, was good enough to make it into the points. That was the most positive aspect of the weekend."
While team-mate Robert Kubica could celebrate winning his first, hard-fought World Championship points in Istanbul, Nick left empty-handed. Having experienced difficulties right at the start of the seventh Formula One race of the year, even Nick's planned tactics could not help him. "My strategy was to start the race with a lot of fuel and to drive a very long first stint - that should have helped me to work my way through the field a bit," says Nick.
Despite this setback, the significant improvement in the performance of the BMW Sauber F1.09 will serve as a timely boost of confidence for races ahead, which continue on 21st June with the British Grand Prix. "I am now looking forward to Silverstone," says Nick. "It is a wonderful, historical racetrack and the English fans are simply class. They are true race fans."
