Our car is fast on low downforce circuits - Kubica
BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Robert Kubica's fourth place at Spa-Francorchamps was his best race result since the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix. This improved performance makes the Pole optimistic for the next race at Monza.
Thanks to an excellent start Robert was able to leap to third from fifth on the grid in the opening lap of the Belgian Grand Prix. In fact, it could have been second behind Giancarlo Fisichella (Force India) had he not been forced to give way in a tight duel with Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari).
"Kimi swerved directly in front of me, and I elected to go into safe mode," reported Kubica afterwards. "We had already seen too many incidents in this corner during the weekend. He touched me, but fortunately only lightly, meaning I was able to continue normally."
Robert was still able to maintain a fast pace, and, in fact, set the third-fastest lap of the raced with a time of 1:47.664 minutes. Nick, with a fastest lap of 1:47.371 minutes, proved the second-fastest driver of the race.
Robert explains: "This weekend proved without doubt that our car is very fast on low downforce circuits. That is good news - and a positive development ahead of Monza."
