Schumacher on top in wet first practice

Michael Schumacher will be pleased to top the timesheets in FP1. He went slightly quicker than his teammate and came under no more threat as heavy rain fell on the circuit moments after the Mercedes GP guys set their laptimes.

With other teams still in the boxes, nobody has set a competitive time, and when they finally came out, they were nearly 22 seconds off the Mercedes drivers.

Several drivers experienced hot moments on the wet track, with Senna damaging his rear wing at Liege, and Paul Di Resta going off in the same corner, causing the session to be briefly red-flagged with 20 minutes left on the clock.

In the closing stages, Jenson Button came to within 8 seconds of the Mercedes GP pace as the racing line became dry on the circuit.
