Hamilton on top in second practice
Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheet of the second practice at Abu Dhabi. His teammate Jenson Button was second fastest. The session though was marked by crashes from Vettel and Alonso without harm to the drivers themselves.
54 minutes into the session, Sebastian Vettel crashed out of the session in turn 1, albeit in a minor impact. He lost control of his car in the braking zone and slid sideways into the barriers, leaving a trail of skid marks. Vettel has had more offs on Fridays this season, including Canada and Turkey.
As Vettel gets back to the pits, so is his car 10 minutes later. The German will be able to rejoin the track 10 minutes before the end of the session.
By that time though, Fernando Alonso had a similar off in Turn 1. The Spaniard stepped out of his Ferrari F150 but kept his helmet on, not in the mood to talk to anyone.
At that time, the McLarens are in the lead, ahead of Alonso, Massa, Webber, Vettel, Schumacher and Sutil.
After the crashes, neither of the top times changed, as most drivers switched to longer running.
