Berger takes up role at FIA commision
At yesterday's world motorsport council, it was decided to appoint Gerhard Berger, former F1 driver and BMW Motorsport director as President of the Single-Seater Commission. The previous president, Barry Bland stepped down due to personal reasons.
Only recently Berger also unveiled that a few weeks ago he had show interest in a GP2 team, although that now seems to be off the table with his new appointment.
“One should never say never, but right now there is nothing on the horizon,” Berger told Austrian television Servus TV.
He also admitted to have been looking into a role at GP2 team Super Nova, but after further inspection decided against it: "It was brought to my attention so I did come to look more closely, but in this case I have to say – clearly no."
Following his new appointment, Berger is already tipped as a possible future FIA president, a role he would likely be suitable for given his previous management experience and his knowledge of Formula One in particular.
