Vettel stays ahead in USA FP2

Sebastian Vettel was again fastest during the second free practice session at Austin. Even despite having to sit out half of the session with a technical issue, the German appeared dominant again. Mark Webber was seconds fastest and on his behalf only fractionally faster than Fernando Alonso.

Jean-Eric Vergne is the first to take the track and is soon followed by numerous drivers in order to complete the regular shakedown lap.

30 minutes into the session, the battle at the front is between Ferrari and Mark Webber. Sebastian Vettel at that time is still in the garage, looking at his engineers fixing a water leak on his Red Bull RB8. The German only completed 3 laps in the first half of the session and returned to the track later on, with half an hour to go.

Just past the halfway mark, Jean-Eric Vergne is the first to go out on track on the medium tyre, soon followed by Grosjean. The latter is later annoyed by De La Rosa, who rejoined the track and was still getting up to speed between turn 6 and 9 when Grosjean arrived at full speed.

When Vettel finally returned to the track, his first lap was 4th fastest, followed by another lap on medium tyres to go to the top of the timesheet, edging his teammate by more than 0.7 seconds.

Vettel time remained the same until the end, with none of his closest competitors being able to improve their own due to traffic.
