Renault to sign new sponsor?
Pitpass today reported that the Japanese technology giant NTT DoCoMo is on the verge of announcing a sponsorship deal with the Renault F1 team that will put the rest of the deals being signed this winter well and truly in the shade. It is said that Renault has been looking to replace its tobacco sponsorship, since that would have to be phased out in a couple of years.
NTT DoCoMo's core business is mobile phone technology, providing wireless voice and data communications to tens of millions of subscribers. In addition to its Asian interests the company has wholly owned subsidiaries in Europe and North and South America.
If what we hear is true, and our sources rarely let us down, the deal will be a major feather in the cap of the French outfit's Head of Acquisitions Julian Cottam, who previously performed a similar role for McLaren.
