Lady Virginia Williams passes away
Williams F1 have today reported that Lady Virginia Williams has passed away at the age of 66. The wife of Williams Founder and Team Principal Sir Frank Williams succumbed after a long and hard fight against cancer over the last 2 years.
A team statement reads: "Lady Virginia, or ‘Ginny’ as she was better known, died peacefully at the family home last night surrounded by Frank and the rest of the Williams family. Ginny had been bravely battling cancer for the past two and a half years."
"Ginny will always be an integral part of Williams’ history and success, and today we pay tribute to a much loved member of the Williams family who will be sorely missed."
Ron Dennis, former team principal of McLaren and long time friend of Frank Williams also offered his condolences, on behalf of the entire McLaren company: "Ginny, as we always called her, was a truly great lady. Friendly and fun, yet also a tower of strength and intelligence, she supported my old friend Frank through many triumphs and disasters, treating those two imposters just the same, over a long and happy marriage.
"She'll be missed not only by the Williams family, to whom we offer our condolences at this very difficult time, but also by the entire motorsport community worldwide."
