Horner awarded with OBE
Christian Horner, the team principal of the Red Bull Racing Formula One team has been honoured in the order of the British empire for his achievements in and services to motorsport.
Horner thanks the title to the three consecutive drivers and constructors championship that he managed to lead Red Bull Racing into the last couple of years.
"I'm naturally shocked," Horner said. "It's all a bit unexpected, incredible really.
"I just feel very honoured and privileged to receive it. To be in the company of men and women who have achieved such great things for the country is something very, very special.
"This is right up there with what I have achieved in motor sport. You look at the list of people and that they have done across all different industries, charities, for their communities, then I'm hugely honoured."
Horner is however the second man of his team to be awarded the title, as RBR's Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey was already awarded an OBE in 2012. His achievements in F1 in particular reach far further back than Red Bull of course, as Newey designed championship winning cars for Williams F1 and McLaren before joining Red Bull.
