Red Bull stays ahead in second practice
Sebastian Vettel remained fastest in FP2 after he already proved to be the fastest man during the first session this morning. His Red Bull team mate Mark Webber is once again second and a very close match.
As teams focused mainly on the longer runs, both on the soft and the harder compound, it became clear there is quite a bit of dropoff on the tyres. Although the circuit will still greatly improve as the weekend progresses, numerous pitstops can be expected yet again.
Just like the early signs in FP1, Lotus and Ferrari look to be reasonable close to the Red Bull cars, both in terms of qualifying and longer run pace.
Mercedes were a bit better than this morning with their drivers in 6th and 7th positions on the timetable. Their times however are more than 5 tenths off of Vettel's best. A lot of graining however was visible on the tyres on both Mercedes cars, suggesting that they might once again struggle to keep up during Sunday's race.
Raikkonen is 8th at the end of the day. He was unable to really set a solid time on the soft tyres. He initially backed out on the first attempt due to traffic and then nearly rear ended Button in the last corner. The Finn most likely thought Button was letting him through, but that was clearly not the intention of the McLaren driver.
At the bottom end of the timesheets, Chilton is slowest, just behind Marussia team mate Bianchi. The Caterhams seem to have the edge at this point in the weekend.
