Ferrari: how key figures rate the Italian team
Ferrari has always stood out as the team with huge enigmatic glamor. If one knows only one car marque it is definitely Ferrari. Some key figures of Formula 1 disclose now how they hold in great esteem the Italian grand team.
Bernie Ecclestone: “Ferrari is in the business longer than any other team, so it is famous all over the world. One should however see that Ferrari without Formula 1 couldn't acquire that reputation.“
Ron Dennis: “Formula 1 was called into being in 1950. It was Alfa Romeo which dominated at first, but then in 1952 Alberto Ascari secured the title for Ferrari. McLaren came only in 1966 into F1 which makes them the second oldest team of F1. Thanks to 16 years Ferrari have the upper hand in terms of wins, poles, fastest laps, etc. Since 1966 the results of Ferrari and McLaren have been comparable though. We are very proud of that. McLaren exist to win and we always considered Ferrari as our main rival. The fight between Ferrari and McLaren has been tough, very tough.”
Ross Brawn: “Ferrari brings big emotions into the sport, without Ferrari Formula-1 would be for me not the same. It was always my wish to work there and to top it all, it had been a sleeping giant (before my arrival). They had huge potential, but they couldn't get the best out of that.”
Rubens Barrichello: “When you visit Maranello and see the Ferraris, you can sense the diversity of this team. The myth started with Enzo Ferrari who was a big man without any doubt. I read a quote of him, he said aerodynamics was important only for those who didn’t know how to build a good engine. One should be someone special to say something like that.”
Gerhard Berger: “Ferrari is the key of whopping success in Formula-1. The oldest team with the richest tradition embodies the spirit of racing more than any other team and brings a great deal of emotions into our sport. You can say: We have McLaren and Williams. It is right and those teams are fantastic. Ferrari is however the leading one when it comes to transport emotions onto the race track. To have got the chance to drive for Ferrari means to me more then any other commitment I have had in F1.”
Niki Lauda: “Ferrari is the most important F1 team of all since it has the most famous name. It cannot be changed and people in F1 should accept it. The charisma of the red cars has its origin by Enzo Ferrari. If Ferrari withdrew from Formula-1, millions of fans would lose their idol and wouldn’t watch (F1) any more. It is as simple as that.”
Frank Williams: “Ferrari is the most important team of F1. It has the most fans all around the world and build fantastic road cars.”
