Hamilton ends Friday on top at Singapore

F1 Grand Prix, GP Singapore, Marina Bay Street Circuit

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time during the second free practice session at Singapore, narrowly edging out Fernando Alonso who earler today went fastest in the first session. Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo was third fastest around the street circuit.

Highlight of the session was a heavy crash for Pastor Maldonado, badly damaging his Lotus E22 against the wall at Turn 10. The Venezuelan lost control on the entry of the corner as the rear end of his car snapped away from him.

Earlier in the session, Sebastian Vettel had completely different issues as he was sidelined with an engine problem that the team found out about at the end of FP1. Still, with 7 minutes left on the clock, Red Bull got the car running, allowing Vettel to do a few laps before the chequered flag.

Other problems were present for Kevin Magnussen who first was seen running slow around the track, then asked to use 'all the toys' to preserve the tyres, before saying himself that he believed something broke on the car. Max Chilton in the Marussia on the other hand reported some gearbox issues with 'slow and heavy' downshifts.
