Hamilton dominates opening practice at Brazil
Even though the world title is already in the bag, Lewis Hamilton showed no signs of decompression as he comfortably dominated first practice at Interlagos, in preparation of this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.
Nico Rosberg was predictably second fastest, albeit closely challenged by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.
Daniel Ricciardo slotted into fourth, powered by Renault's first and only in-season engine upgrade this year. As a result of the engine change however, the Australian is set to take a 10 place grid penalty for Sunday's race. His result this session was in line with Renault's expectations as Ricciardo found himself a couple of tenths quicker than team mate Kvyat who continues to use the older specification this weekend.
Kimi Raikkonen was fifth fastest, ahead of the second Red Bull steered by Daniil Kvyat. Williams’ Valtteri Bottas, Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen, Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg, and Lotus’s Pastor Maldonado completed the top ten as drivers yet again tried to discover the limits of the race track, one that is particularly renowned for offering little grip early on in the race weekend.
