Red Bull delighted with its drivers
Red Bull Racing chief engineer Paul Monaghan stated that his team is very happy with its driver line-up. He also praised the feedback Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo provide to the team in its fierce fight to get back to the top of the field after three troubled seasons.
The Thenford-born expert who works very closely with the team's drivers as his task is to maximize the car's performance is happy to have the Dutch sensation Max Verstappen on board. He is content with the way the 18-year-old is able to contribute to the car's development.
„Max’s feedback is, I would say, very good; for someone of his age it’s particularly good. He is aware of the salient points of his needs amongst the variety of thoughts he may have as he finishes a run or a session.”
Verstappen joined Red Bull ahead of the Spanish GP when he stepped up from the team's sister outfit Toro Rosso by replacing Daniil Kvyat. The Dutchman won his very first race for Red Bull where he had to withstand huge pressure from Ferrari-driver Kimi Räikkönen.
Verstappen has had many other torrid, hard battles since then and he seemed to be resistant to any kind of pressure.
„I’d say his racecraft is pretty strong. His ability to withstand pressure was comfortably demonstrated in Spain, Austria, Hungary. So he’s got a very bright future. He’s a very talented young man. I think with Daniel as his team-mate, it’s a very good benchmark for him.”
The 49-year-old praised the team's Autralian driver Daniel Ricciardo as well. He labelled him as „exceptional” and thinks that the Perth-born can help Verstappen mature by setting a high bar.
„Daniel is an exceptional driver. His feedback is very thorough. He picks up on the salient points again. It’s up to us to give them the environment in which they can express themselves and grow as drivers, human beings. And install a sense of team camaraderie and teamwork into them and see where we go,” added Monaghan.
