BAR stay with current CAD supplier
The Lucky Strike B·A·R Honda Formula One team has signed a new three-year Technical Partnership agreement with market-leading software company, UGS PLM Solutions. The deal is an extension of the existing five-year relationship, which has proved an integral part of B·A·R's design capabilities.
UGS PLM provides B·A·R with the latest CAD-CAM software for use by the team's 80 designers. A substantial maintenance and development contract ensures that both parties extract maximum benefit from the relationship.
The importance of this software to the team cannot be overestimated. A modern Formula One car is modelled almost entirely using high-technology software solutions, and throughout the year the design evolves constantly in order to maximise on-track performance. B·A·R's partnership with UGS PLM allows the team to make changes to the car and communicate between departments both quickly and cost effectively.
Commenting on the value of the partnership, B·A·R Technical Director, Geoffrey Willis commented:
"B·A·R is delighted to continue its technical partnership with UGS PLM. The CAD-CAM system is an integral part of the design and manufacturing process and it is vital that we maximise efficiency in this part of our operation. We therefore require the most up-to-date solutions and support. UGS PLM constantly develops and refines its products for our specific needs, and as a result we have an extremely valuable relationship."
Jim Duncan, Vice President General Manager Europe at UGS PLM Solutions, also spoke about the link-up between the two companies:
"UGS PLM Solutions is delighted to sponsor such a dynamic and innovative company such as B·A·R. In Formula One there is no margin for error, and considering the sophistication of our product solution, we feel that this partnership is a perfect fit."
