FP2: Verstappen fastest as rain might wash out Saturday
Red Bull's Max Verstappen ended up fastest the second 90-minute practice session on Friday at Spielberg. The Dutchman used medium tyres to end up narrowly quicker than Valtteri Bottas on the softest compound.
In light of a possible cancellation of Saturday's running, teams were wary that today's FP2 times could end up being the starting order for the Styrian Grand Prix.
Both Racing Point drivers demonstrated great pace in their pink cars once again, with Perez just 2 tenths down on Verstappen, and three up on team mate Stroll who finished 4th fastest.
Carlos Sainz was fifth fastest, ahead of Lewis Hamilton. The latter was fastest in all three practice sessions last weekend, right on his team mate's tail in qualifying, quick in the race. Yet today his pace has gone missing, to such an extent he was willing to sit out a chunk of FP2 as the team investigated the alignment of his car.
And finally, Daniel Ricciardo, who ended up crashing his Renault R.S.20 heavily. The Australian lost control of his car at Turn 9, and badly damaged the car against the barriers. The team confirmed that the driver is okay, though he was limping heavily when he got out of the car.
