Gasly tests positive for Covid-19
2020 Italian Grand Prix winner, AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly has confirmed on his social media account on Sunday evening that he has contracted the novel coronavirus.
Gasly has revealed on Sunday that he has returned a positive result for a Covid-19 test. The Rouen-born 24-year-old driver has recently spent some time in Dubai where he took part in a training camp.
Despite testing positive, the Frenchman wrote on his Twitter account that he would continue his training programme while he is in quarantine. "Hello everyone, I hope you're all well and safe. "
"I wanted to let you know that I tested positive for COVID-19. I have told everyone I've been in contact with during these last days.
"I'm currently self-isolating and following the protocols set by the local health authorities.I'm feeling OK, and will continue to follow my training plan from home while I remain in isolation. Take care," he said.
Gasly has become the sixth F1 driver to test positive for the virus. Sergio Perez had to miss two grands prix after returning a positive test result while his former team mate Lance Stroll also contracted the virus after the Eifel Grand Prix.
Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton missed the Sakhir Grand Pris after he tested positive just a day after his victory in the first Bahrain race. During the winter break, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc have confirmed a positive result for a Covid-19 test.
