Pirelli completes in-season testing at the Hungaroring
Formula One's tyre supplier Pirelli concluded its post-Hungarian Grand Prix testing of its 2023 tyre compounds with two days of running at the Hungaroring, with Aston Martin and Mercedes involved and helping the process.
Pirelli completed a switch from the 13-inch wheels to low-profile tyres for the 2022 season. In addition to the introduction of the 18-inch wheels, Pirelli has also redesigned the structure of the tyres and the compounds themselves.
For the current season, the Milan-based tyre supplier laid out a plan to work on further refinements on its 2023 tyres by completing in-season testing with several teams throughout the year. Under revised regulations F1 outfits are permitted to run 2022 cars but must abide to a run plan outlined by Pirelli.
The Italian company completed the first of its two-day F1 test running the 2023 prototype tyres at Imola with Alpine, Alfa Romeo, AlphaTauri and Ferrari. That was followed by the test at the Red Bull Ring with McLaren, Williams and Red Bull trialling the new products with the running taking place after the Austrian Grand Prix.
Pirelli has now got another test session under its belt. While most of the drivers commenced their summer break following the action-packed Hungarian Grand Prix, the tyre supplier stayed at the Hungaroring, completing a two-day running with Aston Martin and Mercedes.
While there is no information about Mercedes’ programme, Aston Martin confirmed that it has notched up a total of 267 laps at the 4.3km track located just on the outskirts of Budapest. The Silverstone based team worked with Lance Stroll and reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg with the Canadian driving on Tuesday and the German getting behind the wheel of the Aston Martin AMR22 on Wednesday.
Pirelli is set to conclude its 2023-prototype test programme with Red Bull Racing at Monza, two days after the Italian Grand Prix.
