Pirelli confirmed as F1's Global Tyre Partner until 2027
Formula 1 has today confirmed Pirelli as its Global Tyre Partner and the exclusive tyre supplier to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship until 2027, with the option to extend for an additional year.
The Italian tyre manufacturer, which has been F1’s tyre supplier since 2011, has had a contract with Formula One until the end of the 2024 season. It was believed that two tyre suppliers were in a run for the new contract with Bridgestone having joined Pirelli in the battle for exlusive contract. The sport's governing body, the FIA has now confirmed that the Milan-based tyre manufacturer will continue to supply tyres for F1 until at least 2027 after signing a new contract.
The new agreement also includes the provision of tyres to Formula 2 and Formula 3, in line with Pirelli’s commitment to support the next generation of motorsport talent.
The announcement means that by the end of the new agreement (including possible extension) Pirelli will have been the sole supplier of tyres to Formula 1 for 18 seasons, in which time it has delivered successfully against varied technical and sporting challenges, ranging from 13-inch high degradation tyres when they joined in 2011, the introduction of hybrid power units in 2014, wider tyres in 2017 and the introduction of the current 18-inch tyres from 2022.
Moreover, Pirelli has also taken a leadership role in the research and development of sustainable tyre solutions and supports the environmental sustainability targets set by Formula 1, as the sport aims to be Net Zero Carbon by 2030. From 2024, all Pirelli's F1 tyres will be FSC- certified (Forest Stewardship Council) which confirms that the plantations of the forest-based components of the tyres are managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and brings benefits to the lives of local communities and workers, while ensuring economic sustainability.
