2024 F1 grid complete as Williams continues with Logan Sargeant
Just days after the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final piece of the 2024 puzzle has been filled as Williams have announced that Logan Sargeant will be retained at the team in 2024.
The 2024 F1 grid has long been nearly complete as there was only one vacant seat at Williams. The Grove-based outfit had a contract with Alexander Albon for next year, but their rookie driver Logan Sargeant had only a one-year deal for his debut season.
Despite a challenging first year which included several big crashes, Williams have now confirmed that Sargeant will keep his seat for the 2024 F1 season.
The Miami-born driver had a difficult first year alongside his experienced team-mate Albon as he only scored once while the Thai driver finished in the points on seven occasions. Williams finished seventh in the Constructors' Championship, having scored a total of 27 points of which Albon earned 26 championsip units.
The former two-time F2 race winner's scored his championship point at the United States Grand Prix where he finished 12th, just behind teammate Albon in 11th. However, he would go on to score his first point after Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified due to technical infringements related to wear on the floors of their cars, promoting Albon and Sargeant to 9th and 10th. The revised results made Sargeant the first American driver to score a point in Formula One since Michael Andretti at the 1993 Italian Grand Prix.
Commenting on the announcement, James Vowles, Team Principal, Williams Racing added: "I am pleased to continue our journey with Logan into the 2024 season.
"Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season."
Speaking of his contract extension, Sargeant said: "I am thrilled to be continuing with Williams Racing for the 2024 season. It has been an incredible journey with the team so far, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group.
"We have exciting plans for the future, and I can't wait to contribute to the team's success in the coming year."
